Greece Gets Set To Experience Coldest Winter Of The Past Decade

Greek Meteorologists are warning that this winter season, Greece is going to be exceptionally cold, so much so that it is expected to be the coldest winter of the past decade. So far other Balkan countries have had a preview of the weather to come with snowfall documented as early as the October 22nd.

Over the past few years the winter season in Greece has been somewhat mild, with limited instances of snowfall in the urban areas such as Athens and/or Piraeus, but this is going to change this year because temperatures are set to drop. Meanwhile, eastern parts of Europe are preparing for some polar temperatures, as anticyclones entrench themselves in the west of the continent.

Press reports on Monday claim that similar meteorological conditions were recorded in 1988, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2008, when winter temperatures were rather low, whereas in 1988, 2001 and 2004 the conditions were unusually extreme throughout December to February.

With temperatures in Siberia already reaching -30 degrees Celsius, Greek meteorologists speculate that the temperature is going to begin dropping by mid November and December.

Brrrrrrr
